A Voyage Through History: Captain Levardo and the Trouvadore Expedition
In the summer of 2006, a team of explorers and researchers set sail aboard the Caribbean Explorer I with a mission that would connect the present to a pivotal moment in Turks and Caicos history. Their quest: to locate the final resting place of the Trouvadore, a Spanish slave ship that wrecked near East Caicos in 1841.
What makes this expedition particularly significant for us at Talbot’s Adventures is that our very own Captain Levardo Talbot was the only Turks Islander selected to participate in this groundbreaking project, bridging past and present in our islands’ rich maritime heritage.
“Being part of the Search for Trouvadore project was one of the most exciting times in my career,” Captain Levardo reflects. “As the only Turks Islander on the expedition, I felt an immense honor to help uncover such a key piece of our islands’ history—a story that literally shapes who we are as a people today.”
The spirit of discovery that drove the Trouvadore expedition is the same spirit that animates Talbot’s Adventures today. Just as Captain Levardo helped unveil a crucial chapter in our islands’ story, our tours and excursions invite guests to experience the authentic Turks and Caicos—its hidden cays, vibrant marine life, and rich cultural traditions.

The crystalline waters of Turks and Caicos offer world-class bonefishing year-round. As anglers stalk the elusive ‘gray ghost’ across pristine flats, local guides share generations of knowledge passed down through families who have fished these waters for generations. But this paradise faces threats—coastal development encroaches on critical habitats while pollution from construction runoff and plastics damages the delicate ecosystem. What we possess is a truly extraordinary natural asset that deserves protection for future generations.
